Natalia Karbasova spins off FitTech Summit from Burda

Natalia Karbasova has set up a new company to run the FitTech Summit, the conference devoted to fitness technology and the future of wellbeing and active lifestyle.

The event, which is held in Munich, was previously run by the German publishing and media conglomerate, Hubert Burda Media.

The newly-established FitTech Company GmbH will control and deliver the event, with Karbasova as CEO. She has acquired the trademark and domains for the summit to further develop the event and networking concept, with additional offerings to be announced soon.

“Our goal is to create a common global narrative around technology in fitness, wellbeing and health and connect diverse market players to bring holistic healthy lifestyles forward,” says Karbasova. “By doing this, we will help more people worldwide to develop health awareness in a scalable way.”

As Burda’s creative evangelist and head of Burda Bootcamp, Karbasova launched the FitTech Summit 2018 to address this rapidly growing market. Before that, she founded local conference Startup Day’n’Nite, which was later discontinued to focus on FitTech.

The FitTech Summit focuses on connecting startups in the fitness technology sector with investors and corporates. The most recent iteration of the event had over 1,000 B2B participants, 70 speakers and 50 startup exhibitors.

Previous speakers include Mike Lee, founder of MyFitnessPal, Michael Horvath, co-founder of Strava and Peter Wasowski, founder of Vasper Systems.

The event will take place virtually in 2020, with the date and lineup to be announced soon.

The FitTech Summit is supplemented by regular meetups about fitness and technology and a closed B2B networking group called the FitTech Society, which covers special interest topics within the sector via invitation-only in-person and virtual events.
